Cricket Tournaments with a Twist - Real Ice Cricket
| There is no need for the cricket season to end just because the weather gets cold. At least not in Estonia - the home of cricket played on real ice!
From January to March each year cricketers from all over the world are welcome to Estonia’s beautiful capital city, Tallinn to play a unique game of cricket. With winter temperatures of minus 10 to minus 25, the internationally recognised series of tournaments are played on Lake Harku, which freezes over rapidly in January. If the lake is not completely frozen, the indoor ice facilities at the former Soviet Missile factory can be used. There are three Real Ice Cricket Tournaments held in February and March each year. See the Tournaments’ official home page for more information about the tournaments and the coolest version of the gentlemans’ game itself. Last year, the tournament was proud to have former England player Ian Salisbury playing in the competition. Don’t worry though - you don’t need to be an international player to play ice cricket - anyone can play and have fun! It’s a great chance to capture the social spirit of cricket with a difference, in one of the most unique cities in Europe! Related links: |
