Medieval Town

October 16th, 2007
Tallinn is the biggest town of a small European country - Estonia. Medieval Tallinn is well remained and over six hundred years old. It is the most perfectly preserved in the world.

It looks like a medieval fairyland. From Raekoja Plats, the central square, curved cobblestone streets lined with pastel-coloured doorways spread out to the periphery of the town, like the bent spokes of a bicycle wheel. Behind those doorways meanwhile is the modern city: chic boutiques, galleries, antique shops, restaurants and cafes. Here you can experience a medieval atmosphere. The unique value of Tallinn’s Old Town lies first and foremost in the well-preserved completeness of its medieval milieu and structure, which has been lost in most of the capitals of northern Europe. Since 1997, the Old Town of Tallinn has been on UNESCO’s World Heritage list.
