Song and Dance Celebration

 The Song Celebration tradition started in the middle of the 19th century and it has survived all of the twists and turns in Estonian history.
The Song and Dance Celebration is a great festival that cherich the spirit and nationaltradition for estonians, latvians and lithuanians. It brings together different choirs, orchestras, folk dance groups and folkmusic orchestras from all over Estonia. Celebrations start with a procession - the distance is 5km long and among performers also many people march the whole way from downtown to Song Festival Ground - Lauluväljak. To show it’s popularity - for example in 2007 the SDC had all together 9000 dancers and 26000 singers.
Today Estonian National Song and Dance Celebration is a part of UNESCO Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.Related links: About Song Festival, About Tallinn
