 Estonian theatre is not very well-know around the world but has been a subject of great interests for a long time for many of the foreigners who have now been to Estonia and seen what is being done on the stages here.There are over one hundred premiers in Estonian theatres during a year, the number of audience reaches a bit over a million visitors and it tends to grow.The festival DRAMA gathers the best performances from each theatre and concentrates them to be performed during the first week of September in Tartu.During DRAMA there is a competition program that consists of around 15 performances from different theatres. The competition program plays are being simultaneously translated into English and, if needed, Russian as they are being judged by an international jury of seven members.
This could be a new form of tourism for those who would like to educate themselves with a culture that is being offered in a lovely city of Tartu. Enjoying theatre here gives an excellent overview of the high level of acting, directing and stage design in Estonia. It most certainly gives everyone something to think about.
