Traditional Old Believers Village

Raja is a typical Russian streetvillage on the coast of lake Peipsi.The village was built by Russian Old Believers, the Starovers, on 18th century after a church reformation in Russia, where they were not allowed to have their own churches anymore and many Starovers migrate here.

The houses with gable roofs are located near to each other both sites of the villageroad.The oldest houses was built with many  decorates.

The Russian Old Believers are the carriers of unique culture and religion who has keeped to this day their culture and belives.

The church of the Old Believers in Raja is one of the fewest wooden churches in Estonia.
