It is one of the largest wetlands in Europe which mainly protects nesting, moulting and migratory birds. Also the landscapes are unique and deserve to be protected - floodplains, reedbed, coastal meadows, wooded meadows and islets.

  • There are over 2 millions of waterbirds in Matsalu in the spring, including 275 species of birds.

  • 49 species of fish and 47 species of mammals registered in the area of nature reserve, also 772 species of vascular plants.

  • Matsalu National Park has 5 different hiking trails, 6 bird watching towers and 4 platforms.

  • The Matsalu National Park also offers accommodation and the opportunity to rent a small boat to take a quiet trip in the Bay of Matsalu and see the birds really closely
