Wreck Diving

October 14th, 2007
The Gulf of Finland is an ideal location for individuals who are interested in participating in wreck diving.

There is a large assortment (roughly 20, 000) of momentous wrecks and historic fortresses at the seabed that date back to the 18th century, some even further. In order to be permitted to dive in open water, one must acquire a PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) dive licence. With the licence you will have the respectable qualifications to dive in almost 200 countries and 5000 dive centres across the world. Some of these even offer diving events for customers who have no previous experience and for which a license is not required.

It is also possible to dive in the lakes, although the visibility is not quite as high-quality as in the sea. In addition, participants have the opportunity to practice underwater photography that is an exciting challenge for all budding photographers of all abilities.

It is feasible to dive throughout the whole year but the optimum time is early-spring and autumn as the water is cleaner and clearer. People who dare to face an extreme challenge can also attempt diving in the winter, where the sea is predominantly frozen.
